A friend of mine just got a job working with the A-10. Gives you a sense of scale. Also 3900 of these per minute is 65 per second.
It’s like shooting a solid 1.2 inch diameter metal rod...at Mach 3...that explodes.

His job is to help digitize the design so it can be kept in service longer. Believe it or not all the design and plans are still paper. There aren’t any digital copies of any parts design. In some cases there isn’t even paper so they have to reverse engineer.
